Bombardier to supply ۲۱ Flexity Berlin trams to BVG

TIN news:  Bombardier Transportation has secured a $76m contract to provide an additional 21 Flexity Berlin trams to Berlin Transport Authority (BVG).
This latest deal exercises all options from the framework agreement signed with BVG in 2006 for a maximum of 210 vehicles.
BVG plans to use the additional Bombardier Flexity 100% low-floor trams to increase capacity and meet demands of increasing passenger base.
Bombardier Transportation Locomotives & Light Rail Vehicles president Michael Fohrer said: "We're glad to have received this additional call-off.
“It represents an important milestone in the long term partnership with our valued customer BVG and is a strong proof of the passenger-focused features and exceptional performance of the Flexity platform."
"The bidirectional Flexity vehicles feature a regenerative braking system that harnesses energy typically lost when stopping, which is then fed back into the tram's propulsion system."
Bombardier has delivered 137 Flexity trams to date.
BVG's Flexity fleet entered service in 2011 and has since performed 29 million kilometres of journeys with 132 vehicles in operation.
The bidirectional Flexity vehicles are 40m long and feature a regenerative braking system that harnesses energy typically lost from braking, and then feeds it back into the tram's propulsion system.
In order to improve its fleet performance, BVG is also testing Bombardier's myBTfleet remote diagnosis system on four of its Flexity trams
