Iran and Turkmenistan Hold Comprehensive Talks on Transport, Trade and Energy

Mr. Rashid Meredov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The discussion centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including land and air transport, trade, economics and energy.

Mr. Rashid Meredov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The discussion centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including land and air transport, trade, economics and energy.
Minister Sadegh, who also chairs the Iranian side of the Iran-Turkmenistan Joint Economic Commission, expressed appreciation for Turkmenistan's recent humanitarian assistance and its official messages of condolence and solidarity following the tragic martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and a number of commanders, officials and citizens of Iran. Her Excellency formally requested boosting economic and transport ties between the two nations.
The Iranian cabinet member noted, "Since the onset of recent attacks by the United States and the Zionist regime on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, we have witnessed the positive stance and sincere measures of Turkmenistan, which is commendable."
A key outcome highlighted was Turkmenistan's decision to extend the operating hours at mutual land borders to 13 hours daily. Minister Sadegh praised this measure as a crucial step that alleviates congestion, facilitates road transport under current circumstances, and serves the mutual interests of both countries and the wider Central Asian region. She also called for the review and resolution of certain issues faced by the Iranian transport fleet in Turkmenistan.
In respect, Foreign Minister Meredov reaffirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to host the Joint Economic Commission at the earliest suitable opportunity, stating, "Since the attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran commenced, Turkmenistan's borders have remained open for Iran, and we are deeply saddened by the tragedies that occurred." He stressed his national commitment to following up on the matters raised by the Iranian minister.
Concluding the talks, Minister Meredov announced Turkmenistan's preparedness to pursue joint economic projects, signaling a forward momentum in bilateral relations.
