Siavash Arjmandzadeh, Director General of the Bushehr Ports and Maritime, declared that the future development and prosperity of Iran's ports hinge on digital transformation and smart technologies. He confirmed that Bushehr Port has been selected as the national pilot for this strategic project and is advancing the initiative with determination.

PMO News Portal - Arjmandzadeh explained that Bushehr was chosen as the pilot due to its valuable port and maritime capacities, robust IT infrastructure, and a pool of highly skilled local experts. The project, mandated by the legal requirements of the country's 7th Development Plan, is being executed in collaboration with key innovation ecosystem entities, including the Presidential Deputy for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, and the Center for Transformation and Progress at the Presidency.

Since the project's inception, specialized working groups comprising local experts, programmers, and specialists have been established. These teams hold weekly technical sessions with the Presidential Deputy, consultants from the University of Tehran, and representatives from the Ports and Maritime Organization.

"Currently, the project is in the phase of designing the Bushehr Port smart architecture and implementing infrastructure development plans," Arjmandzadeh stated. "Concurrently, execution teams are leveraging professional programming capabilities and local knowledge-based companies to drive the project forward with high speed and quality."

A core objective of the initiative is to maximize the utilization of Bushehr's and the country's knowledge-based and technology companies. Arjmandzadeh emphasized that scientific and technical expertise from these firms is being integrated into every stage of design and execution to foster local technological development and enhance port operational efficiency.

Despite some non-technical challenges, the Director General assured that the project is proceeding with greater momentum than ever before, supported by the leadership of the Ports and Maritime Organization managing director and expert technical guidance.

Arjmandzadeh highlighted that the experiences, achievements, and execution models derived from Bushehr Port will serve as a blueprint for other ports across the country, paving the way for a unified smart port system.

"The benefits of this project extend beyond the port sector," he noted. "The technological spillovers, technical knowledge, and innovative solutions generated here can significantly boost productivity, streamline processes, and enhance competitiveness in other industries, including the supply chain, transport, and foreign trade sectors."

Concluding his remarks, the Director General stressed that smart process integration, increased productivity, transparency, service facilitation, and unified management are indispensable for the development of Iran's port industry. He affirmed that Bushehr Port, leveraging its human, technical, and infrastructural capacities, is ready to play a pioneering role in achieving national maritime development goals and transitioning toward smart ports.
