Iran’s Road Transit Withstands Crises as “National Transit Workgroup” Streamlines Overseas Trade Flows

Iran registered the road transit of 12,437,993 tons of goods nationwide during the first nine months of the current year, according to Javad Hedayati, Director General of the Transit Department at the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, who underscored that expanding commercial engagement with regional countries remains a key priority.

In an interview with IRNA’s economic correspondent, Mr. Hedayati stated that the country’s road transit operations have maintained a notable level of stability, despite earlier projections of a 50 to 60 percent decline stemming from exceptional circumstances in recent months. He noted that current figures show no significant deviation from the same period last year.

Javad Hedayati also identified several major challenges, including the 12-day imposed war, the fire escalate at the Bandarabbas Port, volatility in global oil prices, and professional protests by drivers, stressing that none of these factors succeeded in halting Iran’s transit flows. On the contrary, he added, growth was recorded along certain corridors.

According to Mr. Hedayati, the decline in the transit of oil-related cargoes has been offset by a rise in non-oil transit, a development attributed in part to the launch of the “National Transit Taskforce”, which has played a pivotal role in facilitating and streamlining international transit procedures.

It is noteworthy that during the nine-month period, the transit of oil cargoes through Iran fell by half, while non-oil cargo transit followed an upward trajectory, a trend that continues to gain momentum.
