The Director General of Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization of Kurdistan Province has announced the completion of extensive measures to prepare the Bashmagh border for the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage.

“The complete separation of passenger and commercial routes, installation of canopies, deployment of service pavilions, and the construction of a new two-kilometer passenger road—complete with asphalt and lighting—have all been finalized to facilitate traffic flow at the border,” said Shahram Shokri, as reported.

In a statement, Shokri stressed that critical facility maintenance—including generators, cooling systems and lighting towers—has been completed to enhance service levels. He noted that the installation of 24 temporary passport inspection gates has increased passenger throughput capacity, and that emergency medical stations, field hospitals and sanitation facilities are now operational and ready for use.

“Along the routes leading to the Bashmagh border, all necessary safety measures have been implemented, including road re-striping, reinforcement of guardrails and restoration of the lighting system,” Shokri added.

He further stated that comprehensive logistical arrangements have been made to transport pilgrims from Bashmagh border to the city of Sulaymaniyah and from there onward to Najaf and Karbala. Travel from Bashmaq to Sulaymaniyah will be provided free of charge.
