The Director General of the Department of Transit and International Transport at the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization has announced an acceleration in the implementation of the Milak Border Master Plan.

According to Javad Hedayati during a site visit to the Milak Border, the master plan studies for were completed in 2022/2023 and subsequently was approved by the National Council for the Organization of Land Entry and Exit Crossings, with the objective of increasing capacity to 1,500 trucks movement per day. However, at the time, the necessary local and environmental status required for implementation were not in place.


Referring to recent regional developments, he added that, following requests from Afghan authorities and traders to increase the cargo measure transported through the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the implementation of the Milak Border Master Plan has once again been placed on the operational agenda.


Stressing the national target of achieving 40 million tons of transit cargo through Iran by the end of the 7th National Development Plan, the Director General noted that, once environmental disorganization is addressed and current operational challenges are rectified, the Milak Border is well positioned to play a significant role in realizing this strategic objective under current conditions.


Mr. Hedayati further announced that the necessary decisions have now been taken to expedite the execution of the master plan, adding that its full implementation will enable the creation of appropriate infrastructure capacity to facilitate approximately 1,500 daily cross-border truck movements, operating under a streamlined through-transport system at the Milak Border.
