5.4% Growth in Passenger Traffic through Iran’s Borders in the First Half of 2025
The Director General for the Department of Transit and International Transport at the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization announced a 5.4 percent increase in passenger transport through the country’s borders during the first six months of the current Iranian year compared with the same period last year.
According to Javad Hedayati stated that the total number of Iranian and foreign passengers crossing through 26 borders rose from 17.44 million in the first half of the previous Iranian year to 18.37 million during the corresponding period of this year.
Highlighting the active role of borders in facilitating international travel, Mr. Hedayati noted that the Mehran border recorded the highest traffic with 5.47 million passengers, followed by Shalamcheh with 4.15 million, and Khosravi with 1.28 million passengers — together accounting for the majority of land border transport.
Stressing the strategic importance of these borders as key infrastructure for connecting international transport networks, the Director General underlined their pivotal contribution to tourism development—including leisure, religious and medical travel—as well as to boosting cultural and social ties with neighboring countries.
