The Director General of Transit and International Transport Department at the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization has announced a significant milestone in the national road transit sector.

During the first four months of the current year, over 5.1 million tons of cargo were transported across Iran’s road network, supported by nearly 232,000 trips by the transport fleet.
According to Javad Hedayati, 4.88 million tons of various goods were transported via entry and exit routes through Iran’s land borders, further detailing that 775,391 tons of goods entered the country via more than 35,000 road trips, versus over 4.1 million tons were exported through nearly 176,000 trips of the goods transport fleet.
Robust Private Sector Participation
Mr. Hedayati also stressed the crucial role of the private sector in bolstering Iran’s transport infrastructure. At present, 2,490 companies are actively engaged in international goods transportation, alongside 60 companies and branches operating in the international passenger transportation sector.
The Director General also underlined the scale of the country’s operational capacity, stating that more than 40,000 active vehicles, with an average working life of 12 years, are utilized on international routes. This is complemented by the efforts of over 51,000 professional drivers, who play a pivotal role in facilitating international trade.
Strategic Border Terminals
Mr. Hedayati further noted that 26 active border crossings, located across 12 provinces, serve as critical hubs for the exchange of goods and passengers between Iran and its neighboring countries. These crossings contribute to boosting Iran’s position as a key transit corridor in the region.
This robust performance reflects Iran’s strategic focus on enhancing its transit and transport sector, positioning the country as a pivotal player in regional and international trade.
