Iran and Pakistan to Connect Chabahar, Gwadar, and Karachi Ports

Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, announced that establishing direct maritime links between the ports of Chabahar, Gwadar, and Karachi is on the agenda of expanding transport cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.

PMO News Portal — Speaking on the sidelines of the Regional Transport Conference in Islamabad, Sadegh emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening transport relations between the two neighboring countries. She noted that, given their unique geopolitical positions, Iran and Pakistan are pursuing joint initiatives in road, rail, and maritime transport, as well as port connectivity and cooperation.

According to the minister, the planned connection between the ports of Chabahar, Gwadar, and Karachi will not only enhance bilateral transit and logistics operations but also lay the groundwork for broader regional transit integration.

Sadegh also highlighted the importance of boosting collaboration between Pakistan’s ports of Gwadar and Karachi and Iran’s ports of Chabahar, Shahid Rajaee, and Imam Khomeini.

She added that the initiative will help facilitate passenger and tourist movement, attract private-sector investment, and promote maritime tourism and trade exchanges between the two nations.

The Regional Transport Conference, attended by representatives from 11 countries, including Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development in Islamabad and concluded with a closing session focused on enhancing regional connectivity.
