Visit of the Minister of Roads and Urban Development to the New Border and Transit Highway of ASTARA

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development, along with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, visited the new Astara border and the transit highway.

Farzaneh Sadegh accompanied by Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, and Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, inspected the Astara-Astara transit highway, which spans 1.280 kilometers, and the new border area.

The new Astara border, which is 95% physically completed, occupies an area of 9,000 square meters, with a total built-up area of 4,000 square meters, including the central building, fire station, service facilities, gates, and more. The border area is expected to increase the capacity of commercial fleets to 2,700 vehicles, significantly boosting regional trade.

This strategic project, recognized as a vital corridor for regional transportation and transit, plays a crucial role in facilitating trade and cargo transport among Iran, Russia, and Azerbaijan. Senior officials emphasized the need to expedite the project’s completion and resolve existing challenges during the visit.

The Astara-Astara highway, in addition to improving access to regional and global markets, is set to strengthen economic relations and increase trade volumes among neighboring countries. This trilateral cooperation is projected to serve as a successful model for other regional infrastructure initiatives.

During the visit, Reza Akbari, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Chairman of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, along with other national and llcal officials, also participated and closely reviewed the project’s progress.
