The Škoda Group has celebrated its receipt of the international Red Dot Award for the production of its new Škoda ForCity Plus 52T tram.
Designed for the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP); the new Škoda ForCity Plus 52T tram is a unidirectional, five-section, fully low-floor vehicle measuring approximately 32 metres in length and capable of carrying up to 243 passengers.
Receipt of the award marks the second time that the Škoda Group has succeeded within the Red Dot Awards, having previously received an accolade for its ForCity Smart tram in 2024, which was designed for use in Bonn, Germany.
Tomáš Chludil, Head of Industrial Design at Škoda Group, said:
Receiving the Red Dot Award is an exceptionally strong confirmation for us that the design of the 52T tram can stand out in the most demanding international competition.
From the very beginning, our ambition with this vehicle was to combine a modern technical solution, a high level of passenger comfort, safety and a visual identity reflecting Prague’s importance as one of Europe’s largest tram cities.
This award therefore belongs to the entire team involved in the tram’s development.
The Red Dot Awards take place in Essen, Germany, with winning products presented at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen.
Designed to be spacious and user-friendly; the Škoda ForCity Plus 52T tram offers passengers wider passageways, modern LED lighting, full-car air conditioning, an advanced information system and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Its low-floor design aims to enable easier boarding for those with reduced mobility, seniors, parents with strollers and passengers with larger luggage.
All 52T trams are equipped with Škoda’s patented anti-collision system, which utilises a combination of sensors, cameras and digital HD maps to detect obstacles in front of the vehicle in good time.
Currently, DPP is awaiting the delivery of 40 ForCity Plus 52T trams, with an an option for up to 160 additional vehicles.
