Stadler’s new TINA (Totally Integrated Low Floor) trams have begun operating a regular service on the Halle transport network (HAVAG).

Initially, the first MGT-XL tram will carry out services on lines 1, 2 and 3 as part of a three-month trial operation, marking the beginning of service for the first of 17 45-metre XL vehicles.

The first 30-metre-long MGT-M vehicle, a shortened variant of the new TINA units, is anticipated to receive approval in November, with a total of 39 planned for commission.

Vinzenz Schwarz, CEO of Hallesche Verkehrs-AG, said:

TINA marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our passengers and local transport in Halle (Saale) – it will be a real milestone. We are therefore releasing the first TINA from the internal commissioning process into public passenger service.

Not only are we bringing more comfort, safety and climate protection to the railways, we are also setting new standards that will make our city even more liveable. It's an incredible feeling to experience this leap into the future of local transport together with our passengers! Today, we are starting the official trial operation as planned – as agreed with Stadler.

The trial period aims to test the new vehicles under real-world conditions, focusing on their reliability and functionality. Each unit’s doors, drives, air conditioning, passenger information systems and collision warning systems will be checked for usability and overall driving behaviour.

Additional TINA vehicles will also be used as training vehicles for potential HAVAG drivers.

The TINA tram sets come equipped with large panoramic windows, led lighting, driver assistance systems and automatic air conditioning, as well as the much touted 100% low floor.

Once the trial period comes to an end, the TINA trams delivered will be gradually implemented into regular service, replacing Halle’s current fleet of MGT6D vehicles.

HAVAG has ordered 56 TINA trams from Stadler, with the first five already having been received.
