In an immediate follow-up to joint consultations with an Armenian delegation, Iranian officials assembled for a specialized working session at the Nordooz border to examine border development requirements and boost transit capacities.
The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, who also serves as Chairman of the Road Maintenance and Transport Organization, with the participation of local authorities. It was convened directly after the bilateral session with Armenian counterparts with the aim of transforming negotiations into time-bound operational programs.
During the session, participants conducted a meticulous technical review of the agenda raised with the Armenian delegation, including existing cargo and cross-border traffic capacities, infrastructure upgrade requirements, and mechanisms for improving services to transport operators.
The gathering underscored that the targeted and systematic utilization of border capacities is a prerequisite for reinforcing transit flows and advancing regional and transregional trade. Achieving this objective would enhance border-crossing efficiency, lower logistical costs, facilitate the movement of goods and boost the contribution of transit to both national and provincial economies.
Executive matters and border-related demands discussed during the Armenian consultations were examined in detail, with an exchange of views on removing existing obstacles, accelerating infrastructure measures, and ensuring urgent follow-up on prior resolutions.
Participants identified inter-agency coordination and synergy, timely allocation of financial and executive resources, continuous monitoring of project progress, and the utilization of available legal instruments as critical success factors in advancing border development initiatives and realizing the expected outcomes of negotiations with the Armenian side.
The session was attended by the parliamentary representative of Jolfa County, the governor and local officials, the directors-general for transit and international transport and for technical and engineering affairs at the Road Maintenance and Transport Organization, and the director-general of the East Azerbaijan Province road administration.
The presence of national and provincial decision-makers provided a platform for greater alignment between policy and executive levels, facilitating effective implementation of the resolutions reached during the joint session with the Armenian delegation.
