Inauguration of Dedicated Vehicle Processing Corridor at Khosravi Border Enhances Pilgrimage and Cross-Border Transit
The Director-General of Road Maintenance and Transportation of Kermanshah Province announced the operational launch of a dedicated corridor for the processing of "temporary import" vehicles at the Khosravi Border. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance and senior officials from the Republic of Iraq.
According to Mr. Ali Salimi, this initiative, implemented for the first time nationwide, establishes an exclusive route for vehicles belonging to pilgrimage caravans utilizing the temporary import ("Carnet de Passage") system, stressing that the corridor is poised to significantly streamline the transit of pilgrims and enhance border service efficiency.
Mr. Salimi also detailed that, following the completion of necessary infrastructure at the Khosravi Border, the first phase of the dedicated corridor will accommodate passenger vehicles. The subsequent second phase will be extended to include buses and larger pilgrimage convoys.
The Director-General underscored that this strategic development is expected to play a pivotal role in facilitating cross-border traffic and stimulating regional economic and pilgrimage-related activities.
"Processing pilgrims' vehicles through the temporary import system presents a unique opportunity to ease the journey for millions of devotees of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS)," Salimi added. "Pilgrims traveling to the sacred shrines in Iraq can now utilize their personal vehicles to enter the country via Khosravi, the oldest border crossing with Iraq."
