Mühldorf - Tüssling track-doubling completed
A major bottleneck on the railway network in southeast Bavaria was eliminated on May 22, when Germany’s federal transport minister Mr Alexander Dobrindt, German Rail (DB) board member for infrastructure Mr Roland Pofalla, and head of the Bavarian State Chancellery Dr Marcel Huber inaugurated a second track on the Altmühldorf - Tüssling section of the Munich - Mühldorf - Salzburg line.
The €127m project was funded with the aid of a €106m grant from the German federal government and is a key component of a broader upgrade of the 141km Munich - Mühldorf - Freilassing - Salzburg line, which includes electrification.
The work included upgrading of track for 160km/h operation, the renewal of 36 switches, replacement of 11 bridges, and installation of 7.5km of noise barriers. A new bridge was constructed across the River Inn and Tüssling station has been rebuilt to provide barrier-free access.
The line carries significant volumes of freight from the chemical works at Burghausen as well as frequent regional passenger services
