During the visit, Dr. Akbari underscored the strategic importance of the Sumar crossing as one of Iran’s key transit gateways, stressing the urgent need to develop and modernize its infrastructure. He described the border's role in advancing trade objectives with Iraq as highly critical. Officials also reviewed a detailed report outlining current service operations, available facilities, and the terminal’s development requirements.

Located in Qasr-e Shirin County and situated just 15 kilometers from the Iraqi city of Mandali, the Sumar Border Crossing is recognized as the closest land route between the two countries—a strategic advantage that significantly enhances export efficiency and transit speed. Products such as steel rebar, marble, tiles and plastic commodities are exported through this border, with heavy commercial truck traffic contributing substantially to regional economic growth and employment.

The Governor of Kermanshah, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, the Member of Parliament for the region, the Director General of Transit and International Transport Department at the RMTO, the Acting Director General of Kermanshah Road Maintenance and Transportation Administration and the Advisor to the RMTO’s Chairman on Charitable Affairs and Deprived Regions were also present during the inspection.
