High-Level Delegation Conducts Joint Visit to Astara Border to Streamline Transit Operations and Implement Comprehensive Electronic Systems
In a significant step towards enhancing the efficiency of transit operations and expediting international fleet movements, representatives from Iran’s General Inspection Organization, Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization and Customs Authority conducted a joint visit to the Astara Border. The visit focused on facilitating seamless traffic flow for transit and international fleets, with an emphasis on the full implementation of an electronic turn-taking system—from the point of fleet loading to departure from the country.

Since the successful introduction of the electronic turn-taking system in the Astara border region last year, efforts have intensified to expand its scope. During the visit, extensive discussions were held to enable full integration and real-time information exchange between the systems of the RMTO and the Customs Authority. This integration aims to ensure a fully automated scheduling process for vehicles, significantly reducing delays and human intervention.
Following expert meetings, it was mutually agreed that the information exchange between the two entities would be operationalized by the first half of November. The system will undergo a pilot phase at the Astara prior its gradual rollout to all border points nationwide, as per the implementation roadmap.
The adoption of this advanced electronic system is expected to revolutionize border management by eliminating human involvement in scheduling processes, thereby fully automating the system. This transformation is anticipated to enhance satisfaction among Iranian and foreign drivers and provide a robust platform for monitoring fleet traffic at the borders and parking facilities across the country. Furthermore, it will enable traders and international transport companies to plan transit operations with greater precision, ensuring smoother cross-border fleet traffic and fostering international trade growth.
