Key Priorities in Kermanshah Province
The Transport Deputy at the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization has highlighted the modernization of the passenger transport fleet and the organization of the Parvizkhan border as central priorities for Kermanshah province. These measures aim to enhance road safety, reduce road accidents and streamline border operations.

According to Mehdi Khezri, during a meeting with representatives of transport associations at the Parvizkhan border, certain challenges of transport in Kermanshah was stressed as below:
“With five entry borders into the country, transport in Kermanshah province seems some sophisticated and demands special attention”.
Mr. Khezri also outlined ongoing efforts to facilitate transport of pilgrims, particularly for the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage, by improving border infrastructure. “As in previous years, we are committed to ensuring a smooth and dignified pilgrimage experience for visitors of Imam Hussein (AS),” he added.
The modernization of the passenger transport fleet remains a top priority for the organization. Khezri expressed gratitude to drivers and the transport industry for maintaining services despite economic hardships and sanctions. He stressed the critical nature of passenger transport, noting its direct impact on public safety and well-being. “Drivers should not face livelihood, medical, or insurance challenges while performing their duties. Our target is to ensure they can provide passengers with safe and comfortable journeys,” Khezri added.
Furthermore, he called for enhanced collaboration with traffic police to improve safety on Kermanshah’s transportation axes, aiming for a significant reduction in road accidents and fatalities.7
Border Infrastructure Improvement Initiatives
During his visit to the Parvizkhan border, Khezri reviewed the progress of efforts to reorganize and enhance the zero-border area. Key objectives of this initiative include separating traffic routes for freight and passenger transport, improving safety in the handling of flammable materials, eliminating traffic bottlenecks, facilitating administrative processes, and reducing transit times for transport fleets.
The Parvizkhan border, located in Qasr-e-Shirin County, is among the busiest and most strategic border crossings in Iran, playing a critical role in trade and transit with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Inauguration of Barakat Transit Road
Coinciding with the visit of the President and the Minister of Roads and Urban Development to Kermanshah province, a 3.3-kilometer-long Barekat transit road was inaugurated at the Khosravi border. This initiative, attended by Mr. Khezri, aims to separate traffic flows for Arbaeen pilgrims and cargo vehicles, ensuring uninterrupted export and import activities during the pilgrimage season.
Designed to accommodate heavy vehicles, the new highway is now operational and equipped with safety features, including three kilometers of concrete barriers in the median. This project significantly enhances the infrastructure of the Khosravi border, ensuring the seamless continuation of trade and transit operations even during peak traffic periods alike Arbaeen.
