Amtrak has advised passengers to book early to avoid disappointment this summer as North America anticipates the beginning of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The season is expected to be one of the busiest periods in the company’s history, and customers are recommended to secure their seats now.

Amtrak President Roger Harris said:

Amtrak is excited to welcome soccer fans from North America and across the globe as they cheer on their home nation teams and travel between cities for matches.

With more than 300 daily trains, Amtrak is prepared to play a key role in delivering safe and reliable intercity travel this summer. We are fully committed to running a world-class railroad, serving as a trusted partner to peer agencies, and ensuring our infrastructure is ready to accommodate new and returning guests.

Amtrak currently provides daily services to almost every host city participating in the World Cup, including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey Area, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, Toronto, and Vancouver, and will work closely with partners in order to support travel across the country this summer.

In late 2025; Amtrak representatives joined with the US Department of Transportation’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Summit to discuss preparations and strengthen relationships with all 11 American host cities and transit agencies.

Preparations to date have included a presence in host city working groups and regional planning sessions, as well as engagement with the White House Task Force on the FIFA World Cup 2026, US Department of Transportation Major Events Working Group, and Northeast Corridor Commission World Cup Working Group.

The company is also planning to make a number of investments to strengthen rail infrastructure along the Northeast Corridor (NEC), and major World Cup gamedays will see additional maintenance employees and rescue locomotives posted at major locations to quickly resolve any potential service issues.

A continued rollout of NextGen Acela trains on select routes will aim to add increased seating capacity to support the anticipated increase in overall customer demand, with new units operating between major city centres on the Northeast Corridor between Washington, DC to New York, to Boston.

Finally, Amtrak will deploy a number of Amtrak Ambassadors across the country. These management staff members will be trained to support customers alongside frontline station employees during major events and heavy travel periods.
