The Metro C Consortium, led by Webuild with Vianini Lavori, has been awarded a 776 million EUR contract to design and build the T1 section of Rome’s Metro Line C extension.

The T1 section will connect the Clodio/Mazzini and Farnesina stations in the northern part of the city, extending public transport services in an area currently without a metro link.

The works will be carried out as an integrated project alongside section T2, which is presently in the executive design phase and includes the line’s first crossing beneath the River Tiber.

The award follows the opening of the Colosseo/Fori Imperiali and Porta Metronia stations in December 2025. These stations added around three kilometres to Line C and created an interchange with Line B. Construction along this stretch involved extensive archaeological activity, with more than 625,000 cubic metres of excavations managed between Monte Compatri/Pantano and Clodio/Mazzini.

The consortium has so far completed 24 stations on Line C, from the eastern terminus at Monte Compatri/Pantano to Colosseo/Fori Imperiali in the historic centre. Work is currently underway on Venezia station, which forms part of the second major phase of construction. The award of the T1 contract allows mechanised tunnelling to continue from Farnesina towards Piazza Venezia without interruption.

When complete, Rome’s Metro Line C will run for approximately 29 kilometres with 31 stations, linking the eastern outskirts of the city with the Farnesina area in the north.
