Strategic Step in Boosting Safety and Berthing Capacity for Commercial Vessels at Imam Khomeini port

The rehabilitation and major repair operations of berths 25 and 26 at the Imam Khomeini Port Complex and its ancillary sections have reached their final stages with over 93% physical progress, and according to the plans, will be put into operation in the autumn of this year.

Sadrollah Bahrami, Deputy for Engineering and Civil Affairs of the Khuzestan Ports and Maritime Directorate, announced this news, stating: "Preserving and enhancing the infrastructural capacity of the berths for the safe berthing of vessels and accelerating the loading and unloading of cargo is one of the important priorities of this directorate."

In this regard, the comprehensive renovation and reinforcement project of berths 25 and 26 is currently being implemented with 93% physical progress and is going through its final execution stages.

Referring to the extensive scope of this plan, Bahrami added: "This project goes beyond these two berths and includes the rehabilitation of sections of the Aluminum Berth, road and rail connecting bridges, as well as the repair of connection joints along berths 14 to 24 of the port complex, to fully guarantee the continuity and stability of the port's traffic and loading network."

Super-Resistant Concrete and Anti-Corrosion Protection

Explaining the executive measures carried out, he said: "In this operation, the piles and columns beneath the berth decks have been reinforced using super-resistant concrete compatible with the marine environment, and special protective coatings have been applied to prevent corrosion of structures against moisture and seawater. Additionally, the reconstruction of the concrete deck surface, the renovation of ship berthing fenders, the replacement of asphalt surfacing, the organization of utility routes, and the reconstruction of maritime navigation lights in the Khor Musa waterway are among the other important measures of this plan."

Execution Without Disrupting Port Operations

In conclusion, referring to the sensitivities of carrying out work in an active port, the Deputy for Engineering and Civil Affairs of the Khuzestan Ports and Maritime Directorate noted: "These technical measures have been executed by domestic experts without stopping the loading and unloading process of ships, and despite the specific tidal conditions of the sea and extreme heat, so that by enhancing the resilience of the structures, a safer and higher-quality foundation is provided for the country's maritime trade cycle."
