PMO News Portal, Khuzestan, Iran – The first international transit shipment from Arvandkenar Port has been successfully dispatched to Kuwait, marking a significant milestone three years after the port officially received its transit operation license.

The shipment consisted of live livestock (sheep) originating from Georgia, which entered Iran via the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Bileh-Savar border crossing before being transited through Arvandkenar Port to its final destination in Kuwait.

Strategic Gateway for Live Animal Transit

As the closest Iranian port to Kuwait, Arvandkenar has emerged as the most efficient route for the transit of live animals. According to veterinary authorities, a permit has been issued for the transit of 6,000 sheep through this border port.

With a distance of only 65 nautical miles separating Arvandkenar and Kuwait, the port enjoys a notable economic advantage over other southern Iranian ports. The shorter maritime route significantly reduces transportation costs, making Arvandkenar an increasingly attractive option for exporters and transit operators.

Growing Capacity and Economic Potential

Covering an area of 22 hectares, Arvandkenar Port provides ample space for loading and unloading operations—particularly for live animal shipments and other commercial activities. This infrastructure capacity positions the port as a key driver in expanding regional trade and supporting the economic growth of southern Iran.
