Swiss startup Jekta has partnered with UK-based Open Skies Network to develop electric amphibious aircraft operations across the Gulf region with services targeted to begin by 2031.

The collaboration will identify suitable sites for Regional Air Mobility networks, aiming to connect remote regions of the Gulf with urban hubs, using low-emission, water-capable aircraft.

Open Skies Network, recognized for developing infrastructure for drones and eVTOL aircraft, said the partnership represents a major step toward integrated mobility in the region.

“By integrating sustainable aircraft and mobility solutions across water and land, such as Jekta’s aircraft, we can connect the peninsula’s touristic gems while avoiding terrestrial gridlock and ensuring passengers enjoy the quality of experience the region is known for,” Open Skies Network CEO Gareth Whatmore said.

At the heart of the initiative is Jekta’s PHA-ZE 100 amphibious aircraft, designed for passenger, corporate, medevac and cargo missions, and capable of operating from paved, unpaved and water runways.

The aircraft has already secured over $1.35 billion in forward commitments from operators across Asia, India, and the Middle East.

“The UAE and the wider GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] region hold enormous potential for Jekta,” Jekta CIO Wouter du Preez said. “With significant interest and forward sale agreements from global operators and leasing entities eyeing GCC expansion, this partnership forms a cornerstone of our commercial growth.”

Jekta’s launch customer for the PHA-ZE 100 is charter operator Gayo Aviation, based in Dubai.
