Aeromexico Boosts Europe Network With Barcelona, Paris Routes

Aeromexico plans to expand its transatlantic network next summer, adding routes to Barcelona and Paris as the carrier deepens its European presence.
The airline intends to commence a Mexico City Juarez (MEX)-Barcelona (BCN) service on March 28, 2026, before launching Monterrey (MTY)-Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) flights on April 13.
The Barcelona route marks a reinstatement for Aeromexico, which previously served the market from June 2019 until the onset of the pandemic in 2020. The carrier will operate 6X-weekly flights between the destinations using a mix of Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft, offering more than 3,000 seats per week during the summer season.
Aeromexico says the move “reaffirms [the airline’s] commitment to the Spanish market,” adding that its overall Spain offering will reach up to 40 frequencies per week in summer 2026, including service to Madrid from Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
The SkyTeam member’s revival of Barcelona service reopens a competitive issue that dates back to before the pandemic. When the airline launched MEX-BCN flights in July 2019, it did so amid efforts to block Emirates’ planned fifth-freedom Dubai-Barcelona-Mexico City operation.
At the time, Aeromexico argued that competing with a “subsidized” Gulf carrier would be “very difficult,” and fought unsuccessfully to prevent the approval of the fifth-freedom rights. However, Emirates launched the route in December 2019 and currently operates a daily 777-200LR service, providing around 4,200 weekly seats.
According to Sabre Market Intelligence data, 148,700 passengers traveled between Mexico City and Barcelona in 2024—down 14.4% year-on-year—with about 70% flying nonstop. Madrid was the leading one-stop market.
Aeromexico’s second new route between MTY and CDG will open a new European gateway for northern Mexico. The carrier plans 3X-weekly 787-9 flights, adding more than 1,500 seats per week. It already serves Madrid from Monterrey, but Paris will become its second nonstop link in Europe.
Sabre data indicates Monterrey-Paris demand totaled 13,200 passengers in 2024, making it the third-largest European market from the city behind Madrid and London.
With both launches, Aeromexico’s capacity to Europe will increase by 11% year-over-year, reaching a record high for the airline. In addition to Barcelona and Paris, Aeromexico will continue daily flights from MEX to Amsterdam, London, Paris and Rome.
The MEX-BCN route will operate until Oct. 24, while the MTY-CDG flights will run through Oct. 23.
