Omaha teams up with Causeway One.network

Nebraska city deploys the firm's Traffic Management and Live Link products

Omaha teams up with Causeway One.network

Omaha City will work with Causeway One.network to enhance communication about road disruptions and manage traffic across public works projects, police emergencies and major events.

Through the deployment of Traffic Management and Live Link, two key tools within the One.network platform, Omaha aims to modernise its approach to road safety, improve traffic flow and ensure real-time updates are delivered directly to the travelling public.

“Whether it’s a planned detour or an unexpected road closure, getting accurate information out quickly is critical,” said Hannah Adeponu, parking and mobility manager for the City of Omaha.

“With Causeway One.network, we’ll be able to reduce driver frustration, improve safety and keep Omaha moving, especially in the fast-growing downtown area.”

Traffic management allows city teams to digitise and streamline planning and communication for road closures, construction zones and special events.

Live Link takes this further by enabling on-the-ground personnel such as public works crews or police to share live road status updates directly with major navigation apps like Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze.

This ensures timely, accurate information reaches drivers when and where they need it most.

The technology was launched in Omaha in June during the College World Series, when Omaha saw a dramatic influx of visitors and increased traffic near the downtown baseball stadium. With Live Link, the city was able to dynamically activate and update closures, helping visitors and locals navigate the city safely and efficiently.

During the College World Series, vehicles were actively detoured around closures near the ballpark with a direct tie to navigation platforms. Later, Live Link was used to detour users around closures at South 29th and Farnam Streets, where the on-ramp to Interstate 480 was closed. By providing real-time lane closures on high-traffic streets, users can view where traffic delays are occurring from their choice of navigation app.

“By adopting Traffic Management and Live Link, the city is leading the way in reducing congestion and improving communication between agencies and the public,” said Paul Madeira, chief relationship officer of Causeway Technologies.

Causeway One.network said that Omaha joins a growing list of agencies across in the US, including Arlington in the state of Texas, the Utah Department of Transportation and Clark County in Nevada state, with which it has partnered.

The deal also brings Omaha one step closer to streamlining its permitting process, which enables internal and community collaboration.

The company said that the Parking and Mobility, Traffic and Capital Construction and Street Maintenance divisions of the city’s Public Works can now easily communicate traffic control plans that affect on-street parking and the way drivers move around Omaha.

A further goal is to coordinate live closures for special events with the Omaha Police Department, allowing for real-time opening and closing of roads.

The team at Park Omaha - a division of the City of Omaha’s Public Works department - manages parking and micromobility. Park Omaha generates enough revenue to support operations, maintenance and improvements while balancing parking supply and demand and opportunities for mobility and kerb management.
