Transit of Over 3.2 Million Tons of Goods Through the Country

The Acting Director General for the Department of the Transit and International Transport of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) said that during the first three months of the current year, 3,261,680 tons of goods were crossed through Iran’s road network.

The Acting Director General for the Department of the Transit and International Transport of the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) said that during the first three months of the current year, 3,261,680 tons of goods were crossed through Iran’s road network.

According to Mr. Hosseini, this transit measure was carried out through 142,340 trips by road fleet in the scope of international road transport.

He further stressed that in the first three months of the year, 3,675,096 tons of cargo were exported to destination countries, facilitated by 146,527 trips of public transport fleets from Iran’s land borders.

The official also reported that 709,333 tons of various goods were imported into the country through 31,325 trips of public freight transport fleets within the same period, adding that cargo handling at both entry and exit points is continuously underway with the involvement of 3,368 active companies.

Mr. Hosseini also pointed to the operation of 68 companies and active branches in the international passenger transport sector, noting that during this period, more than 2,673,000 passengers were moved along round-trip routes using active passenger fleets operating in international transport lines via Iran’s land borders.

He further stated that currently, 51,000 public transport vehicles with an average age of 12 years are in service on the country’s international routes, while freight and passenger movement through land borders is being carried out with 63,000 commercial drivers.

The Acting Director General for the Department of Transit and International Transport concluded by noting that cargo and passenger transit between Iran and neighboring countries is currently being conducted through 28 border crossings across 12 provinces, playing an effective role in boosting and expanding domestic trade.
