Western Azerbaijan Reports 6% Growth in Cross-Border Trade and Passenger Traffic
Western Azerbaijan’s borders recorded a 6% increase in the movement fleets during the first eight months of the current year.
Harvy Modarres, Head of Transit at the Provincial Road Maintenance and Transportation Department, announced that over 513,000 export and import‑carrying vehicles crossed the province’s borders in this period, marking a 6% rise compared with the same timeframe last year.
He noted that the highest traffic was registered at the Tamarchin border, which handled 230,854 cargo vehicles — a 30% year‑on‑year increase.
Modarres added that over 4,221,000 Iranian and foreign passengers also passed through the province’s borders during the same period, reflecting a 4.71% rise from last year.
He further stated that the Razi border recorded the highest measure of passenger traffic, with statistics indicating that 7,599 passenger‑transport vehicles facilitated this movement.
According to Modarres, enhanced infrastructure and round‑the‑clock operations aimed at improving the flow of passengers and cargo have played a key role in the increased activity across the province’s borders.
