Deutsche Bahn (DB) has put out a call to hire approximately 5,200 new apprentices and dual-study students nationwide throughout 2026.

The company has stated that all those who complete the courses will be guaranteed employment within the company once successful, with applications for starting positions in Autumn 2026 now open.

The apprenticeship positions will focus on operational positions directly involved in railway operations, including around 1,000 opportunities to become train traffic controllers and 850 to become train drivers. 1,000 positions will be available for those looking to become involved in infrastructure maintenance (e.g., electronics technicians, mechatronics engineers, track builders), with 700 available for those entering positions handling the technical maintenance of trains (e.g., electronics technicians, mechatronics engineers).

In total, DB will offer 50 different apprenticeships and 25 dual study programmes.

DB Human Resources Director Martin Seiler, said:

Even in times of change, we place great value on our young talent. They secure the sustainable future of our company.

In addition to first-class training, we also offer young people a permanent employment contract upon graduation.
