Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has announced it will launch Silver Line rail services on Saturday, 25 October.

The new 26-mile commuter railway line will connect seven cities – Plano, Richardson, Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, Coppell and Grapevine – and Dallas Fort Worth Airport. The line will reduce congestion and give residents access to jobs and education opportunities.

The rolling stock for the new line has been manufactured by Stadler. All stations are fully accessible and the line also has direct transfers to DART Light Rail, bus routes and DFW terminals.

Services are set to run every 30 minutes during weekday peak hours and every 60 minutes during off-peak hours and during weekends. Trains will start at 4am in the morning and run until 1am in the morning.

The Silver Line is built for longer distances and faster connections than DART’s light rail system. It also provides a connection to North Texas’ expanding trail network, giving riders access to walking, biking and other recreational activities.

Nadine Lee, DART President and CEO, said:

The Silver Line is a centerpiece of our Point B vision to make DART your first-in-mind mobility partner.

By connecting key employment centers, neighborhoods and the world's third-busiest airport, this project will be a catalyst for economic growth, provide access to opportunity and a seamless mobility experience that helps our region thrive.

The early morning and late evening operating hours are aimed at helping commuters as well as airport passengers and leisure travellers.

The trains are equipped with bicycle racks, overhead luggage racks, USB phone chargers and ADA-compliant boarding.

To mark the start of service, DART will offer free Silver Line rides from 25 October to 8 November.
