Union Pacific Railroad has celebrated the grand opening of its latest intermodal terminal in Kansas City, Kansas.

The fourth intermodal facility opened by Union Pacific since 2021, the Kansas City Intermodal Terminal (KCIT) is located near a number of key highway and interstate locations in order to provide easy access for shipping needs across the company’s rail network.

Kenny Rocker, executive vice president-Marketing and Sales at Union Pacific Railroad, said:

This new terminal reflects our commitment to building for the future and providing our customers with convenient and cost-effective access to the U.S. supply chain.

Our customers want faster, more reliable freight options and this terminal delivers.

The terminal will service domestic and international containerised shipments of grains, consumer goods, refrigerated products, and auto parts throughout the Midwest region, and serves to convert a large portion of truck traffic to rail operations, as well as increase local capacity with two new car parks, additional working tracks and precision gate technology.

The operator has also stated it will move its KCIT domestic service from its Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) terminal in Long Beach, California to the City of Industry terminal in Southern California.
