Wherry line weekend engineering work this September
Passengers are being encouraged to check their journey plans before travelling as important engineering work on the Wherry lines will take place over three consecutive weekends in September.
Passengers are being encouraged to check their journey plans before travelling as important engineering work on the Wherry lines will take place over three consecutive weekends in September.
Engineering work includes renewals and track maintenance of the railway infrastructure to keep the railway running reliably and safely. The work includes:

Replacing old rails between Reedham and Hadiscoe to achieve smoother train ride,

Improving drainage in Surlingham to maintain track stability,

Tamping of the track bed to repack the ballast and wheel timber renewals to maintain railway performance, the alignment of the rails and extending track lifespan.

Carrying out vegetation management tasks for autumn readiness to reduce leaf buildup, which can affect punctuality of train services.
This weekend work will affect Greater Anglia passenger services between Great Yarmouth and Norwich & between Lowestoft and Norwich on the following weekends:

Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September

Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September

Sunday 22 September
A rail replacement bus service will be in place to allow passengers to complete their journey between Great Yarmouth and Norwich & between Lowestoft and Norwich.

This engineering work will help us to continue to provide a reliable service for our passengers. I’d like to thank everyone for their patience during these essential tasks.”
