President Calls for Targeted Policies for Marine-Based Economy

The President, emphasizing the necessity of redefining the missions and priorities of the Supreme Council of Maritime Industries of Iran in line with the country's current conditions, called for the formulation of precise, targeted, measurable, and time-bound policies and programs to achieve sea-based economy goals and effectively utilize the neglected capacities of the coasts and seas.

the meeting of the Supreme Council of Maritime Industries was chaired by Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, during which the most important issues and priorities in the country's maritime industries sector, strategies for strengthening the capacities of this sector, as well as the performance of the Supreme Council of Maritime Industries, were reviewed and decisions were made.

Eight Agenda Items Reviewed

In this meeting, eight agenda items were presented and reviewed by the Council's secretariat, including: examination of required amendments to the Law on Development and Support of Maritime Industries, review of the draft regulation on the separation and recycling of aged vessels, formulation of a support package for the revival and preservation of knowledge and skills in the construction of wooden launches and traditional navigation in the Persian Gulf, as well as a performance report of the Supreme Council of Maritime Industries.

The President, emphasizing the necessity of redefining the missions and priorities of the Supreme Council of Maritime Industries, stated: "In line with the country's current conditions and developments in the maritime industries sector, a clear, specific, and measurable vision and goals must be set or revised for the Council, so that policymaking is based on a clear vision and defined objectives."

Sea-Based Economy and Neglected Coastal Capacities

Pezeshkian also highlighted the sea-based transformation of the country through coordination and synergy among various agencies and maximum utilization of the neglected capacities of the country's coasts and seas as the goals and missions of this Council, emphasizing: "The macro-missions of the Supreme Council of Maritime Industries must be translated into precise, disaggregated, targeted policies and programs with specific timelines, so that the degree of achievement of goals and the effectiveness of measures can be evaluated."

Call for Reducing Bureaucracy in Maritime Industries

In another part of his remarks, the President emphasized the need to reduce administrative processes and bureaucracy in the maritime industries sector, stating: "In some executive processes, including the renovation of the maritime fleet damaged during the recent war, mechanisms must be established to facilitate affairs and accelerate administrative procedures."

Referring to the formation of a new ecosystem to facilitate processes related to this sector, Pezeshkian noted: "It should be arranged so that the applicant, by entering through a single designated portal, is not forced to refer separately to multiple agencies to obtain inquiries and complete administrative procedures."

Focus on Fisheries Exports and Fuel Pricing Reform

The President also, referring to the presented report on the significant growth of distant-water fishing in the 14th government and the reduction of the country's dependence on imports in this area, emphasized the need to provide grounds for the development of fisheries product exports, stating: "Given the capacity of regional markets and the potential for foreign currency earnings, existing capacities should be utilized for the development of fisheries exports and strengthening Iran's presence in regional markets."

Pezeshkian also emphasized the necessity of revising the fuel supply pricing mechanism for ships and vessels in light of price reforms implemented in the country, calling for review and appropriate decision-making in this regard.

Support for War-Damaged Vessel Reconstruction

The President further emphasized the need to utilize the capacity of the Organization for the Sale of State-Owned Properties (Amval-e Tamliki) to support the reconstruction of ships damaged during the war, stating: "The support provided must be managed in such a way that, while ensuring continuity and effectiveness, all eligible parties can benefit from it, while avoiding the creation of methods and commitments that cannot be sustained."
