The World Maritime University (WMU) Summer Academy, titled "The International Dimension of Maritime Law and Policy," concluded after a week of specialized training and exchange of knowledge and experience among professors, experts, and learners from various countries in Malmö, Sweden.

During this specialized course, a wide range of contemporary topics in maritime law and policy were examined, including arbitration and dispute resolution, maritime law, the law of the sea, ship registration, marine insurance, sanctions affecting shipping, legal responsibilities, electronic transport documents, cyber threats, decarbonization of the shipping industry, and legal challenges of autonomous ships.

The academy was held with participants from various countries in an international setting, providing an opportunity for the exchange of views and specialized experiences among maritime sector professionals and experts.

Women's Participation with IMO Support

In this course, women from various countries also participated with the support of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), engaging alongside professors, experts, and other maritime sector professionals in the academy's specialized discussions.

Certificates Awarded to Participants

The WMU Summer Academy concluded on September 4 after a week of intensive training, and participants who successfully completed the course received Certificates of Completion.

The course was coordinated by Professor George Theocharidis and conducted with the participation of WMU professors and international experts. Additionally, Sir Stephen Males, Judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales, attended as a special guest and presented the certificates.

The holding of this academy in Malmö once again highlighted the role of the World Maritime University as an international center for education and knowledge exchange in the field of maritime law, policy, and governance.
