PMO Chief: Abadan TankFarm Lands a Prime Opportunity for Expanding Trade with Iraq
Mohammad Shakibi: The unused lands of Tank Farm in Abadan are a good opportunity for developing port infrastructure, given their special location and proximity to Iraq's water borders.
The Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization, emphasizing the need for effective utilization of neglected port and commercial capacities, stated that the unused TankFarm lands in Abadan — given their special location and proximity to Iraq's water borders — represent a prime opportunity for developing port infrastructure, expanding commercial exchanges, and strengthening the Islamic Republic of Iran's economic ties with Iraq.
Mohammad Shakibi-Nasab, during his trip to Abadan and a visit to the city's port capacities, emphasized in a meeting with Abadan Port officials the need to examine ways to utilize the unused Tank Farm lands.
During the meeting, the capacities of the TankFarm lands were raised by Malekizadeh, Director of Ports and Maritime of Abadan. Referring to the location and capacities of these lands, he stated that if these lands are transferred to the Abadan Ports and Maritime Organization, new commercial and port infrastructure could be created, paving the way for developing maritime activities and increasing economic connections with neighboring countries, particularly Iraq.
He added that utilizing this capacity could contribute to the development of port and commercial activities, increased economic exchanges, and greater prosperity for the region's economy.
The Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization, referring to the topics discussed in the meeting with Abadan Port officials, said that various issues were raised and examined during this trip, which will certainly be pursued with greater seriousness in future meetings at the headquarters and capital level.
Emphasizing Abadan Port's position in the economic development of southwestern Iran, Shakibi-Nasab added that given the capacities and location of this port, efforts will be made to pursue the raised issues with a serious approach, so that the people and economic actors can benefit more from Abadan's port and maritime capacities.
He described the Tank arm lands as having a prime and rare location, stating that the location of these lands and their approximately 350-meter distance from the opposite area on Iraqi soil has created a special capacity for developing commercial ties between the two countries — a capacity that, if the necessary requirements are met, could contribute to the development of port and commercial infrastructure and increased economic exchange volumes.
