Iran and Russia Discuss Expansion of Maritime Transport Cooperation

The Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran, Saeid Rasouli, who traveled to Russia to attend the Iran-Russia Maritime Transport Cooperation Meeting in Makhachkala, held talks in Moscow on Wednesday with Russian officials to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.

PMO News Portal, MOSCOW – Saeid Rasouli, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), met with senior Russian officials in Moscow on Wednesday to discuss the expansion of maritime and multimodal transport cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, held at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Moscow, brought together Dmitry Zverev, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Transport, and Tarasenko, Head of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport. Both sides reviewed the current status of bilateral cooperation and explored strategies to enhance transport links through the Caspian Sea.

Rasouli’s visit to Moscow precedes the Iran-Russia Maritime Transport Cooperation Meeting, scheduled for November 6–7 (15–16 Aban) in Makhachkala, where Iranian and Russian officials, as well as representatives of private maritime and logistics companies, will discuss key partnership initiatives.

According to Russian Transport Ministry data, the volume of road freight between Iran and Russia grew by 12.8 percent in 2024, reflecting the strengthening economic and logistical ties between the two nations.
