Containerships, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, conducted its first simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) bunkering at the Port of Rotterdam, on July 4, 2019. The vessel is the first container carriers to perform SIMOPS in Europe, by the ship-to-ship way.

Specifically, CMA CGM reported that the company's LNG-powered Containerships Nord vessel received 200 tonnes of LNG.

The operation enables for the concomitant bunkering of LNG and execution of loading and unloading procedures.

In order to be sure of a safe ship-to-ship bunkering, Containerships collaborated closely with Shell, who is its bunker suppliers, with the port of Rotterdam and with the RST terminal.

The SIMOPS helps reduce the ship’s stay in the port and avoid operational delays, therefore, reducing transit times.

Furthermore, SQE Marine Consulting has issued a circular advising on a proper SIMOPS risk assessment, which is to be conducted through several dedicated meetings, requiring participation of multidisciplinary attendees by all involved parties.
