Terminal upgrade begins at Tallahassee International Airport in Florida, US

TIN news:         A major terminal upgrade has started at Tallahassee International Airport (TLH) in Florida, US, in a bid to make flying in and out of TLH easier and more customer friendly.
 
Local contractor Cook Brothers has been signed for an amount of $10.5m, for the terminal modernisation project.
 
The project will be funded through grants from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), agreements with TSA and local funding.
"This is a step towards our overall goal of improving our airport."
 
Under the project, the airport's lobby will be reconstructed up to the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) checkpoint.
 
In addition, the project will include deployment of a new baggage claim system, ticket counters for airlines and rental car agencies, safety screening machines, a new TSA screening room and some aesthetic upgrades, including new terrazzo flooring and LCD monitors.
 
City commissioner and commission liaison to the airport Scott Maddox said: "This is a step towards our overall goal of improving our airport.
 
"We are committed to enhancing the Tallahassee air travel experience, from our terminal improvements to adding more flights and lower fares."
 
Construction of the project will be set in motion with the demolition in the baggage claim area.
 
On completion of the demolition phase, which is expected to continue until March 2016, crews will begin working on installing new amenities.
 
According to aviation director Chris Curry, regular operations at the airport will not be affected by the project.
 
The entire project is expected to be completed in October 2016.
 
According to the Tallahassee Government, the airport serves Tallahassee, 11 neighbouring Florida counties and 12 southern Georgia counties accounting for 32% of air passenger travel in the Northwest Florida Region.
