Miami airport to expedite security check with Clear technology

 
TIN news:         The Miami International airport is set to introduce a secure identification tool that will reduce the time needed to go through security checkpoints.
 
Developed by technology firm Clear, the system will expedite the security checking procedure by verifying passenger identities through fingerprints and iris scans, reported The Sun Sentinel.
 
Passengers will be able to avail of the facility from 20 May by paying a membership fee of $179. Additional family members can be added for $50.
 
Passengers travelling at gates in Concourses D, E, H and J that serve American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and other carriers can make use of the technology.
 
Clear has already installed its biometric security system at 11 other airports, following its launch at Orlando International Airport several years ago.
 
Passengers getting enrolled to the technology will need to register with the company in person for the verification of their ID, fingerprints and iris.
 
Following the verification, a CLEARcard is sent to the member for use at the airport.
 
While the technology is set to decrease the time required for security checks, enrollees will still have to go through the usual procedure of removing their shoes and belts and putting laptops in bins and scanning their carry-on luggage.
 
The airport has opened the enrollment for the technology at its E and H gates.
