Strukton Rail and Twente University partner to enhance Dutch railway network
TIN news: Netherlands-based rail technology company Strukton Rail has signed an agreement with the University of Twente (UT) for applied scientific research to enhance performance of the Dutch railway network.
Strukton is expected to invest €1m in the project.
As part of the initiative, three doctoral students will carry out research over the next four years, in order to move from reactive maintenance towards data-driven predictive asset management.
The company said the transition will be achieved through the development of continuous monitoring systems, innovative processes and methods.

With this agreement, Strukton will work together with four different maintenance groups in Twente and the rail company decided to halt its small-scale track construction and renewal activities in Germany.
After its acquisition of Georg Reisse in 2007, the company was active in the German track construction and renewal industry, as well as the railway asset management market in the country.
According to 2014 estimates, Strukton Rail's profit in small-scale track construction and renewal sector of Germany amounted to €12.5m.
