Port of Duqm conducts its first discharge of OCTG pipe shipment

TIN news:   Port of Duqm successfully discharged a first 2,000mt parcel of OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) pipes via its commercial quay.
According to a press release, OCTG describes tubes that are used in on and offshore oil and gas production and includes drill pipe, casing (which lines the wellbore) and tubing (which transports the oil and gas to the surface).
These pipes are typically sourced from producers in Asia and South America and are used extensively in the various oil and gas fields in the sultanate.
Port of Duqm is expected to play a central role in the sourcing of the material and further inland distribution where end customers will benefit from Duqm’s location and enjoy a substantial reduction of their logistical costs.
To this extent, this first operation will be the start of regular shipments to Duqm from now onwards. The operation was done at high discharge productivity rates while fully complying with the port’s and customer’s stringent safety standards. Duqm port is operational on a 24X7 basis and fully-equipped to handle this type of cargo, which allows them to accommodate these important product streams and provide a high-level service.
The goods will be safely stored in the ports storage yard and further shipped to various oil and gas fields in the country soon. Erwin Mortelmans, commercial director of Port of Duqm, said, “The OCTG market is expected to become one of the structural cargo flows coming to Duqm and will give a boost to the port’s activity level. Our operational team has shown to be fully ready to handle this sensitive cargo in the most efficient way, and is keen to handle these shipments on a regular basis. Logistic and industrial land is readily available for OCTG service providers to develop their business in Duqm and provide the required support for this important industry. As such, Port of Duqm aims to become the centre of excellence for the OCTG distribution market soon.”
