Embraer’s E2 generation of small narrowbody jets has operated on a scheduled route into China for the first time, with Hunnu Air starting services using the aircraft.

The Mongolian company has launched services with one of its two recently delivered E195 E2s from the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar to Beijing’s Daxing International Airport.

“The launch of this route with our new E195-E2 aircraft reflects Hunnu Air’s determination to expand our international network and symbolizes the deepening friendship and collaboration between Mongolia and China in this new era,” Hunnu Air CEO, Munkhjargal Purevjal said.

“Since 2019, we have operated first-generation E190 aircraft, and the introduction of the E195-E2 serves as the perfect upgrade to meet growing domestic and international travel demands. We expect that the E2 will become a backbone of our long-term growth.”

The airline plans to deploy its E195-E2s to increase capacity to Haikou and Sanya (China) and Phu Quoc (Vietnam), while also expanding services to Japan, India and South Korea. It also intends to start scheduled flights to Tashkent (Uzbekistan).

Hunnu Air is operating its E195-E2s in a two-class, 136-seat configuration.

“Today, we take immense pride in the launch of this route with Hunnu Air’s new E195-E2, the first E2 jet to operate at mainland China,” Embraer Commercial Aviation’s CCO, Martyn Holmes said.

“We stand firmly with Hunnu Air to support the success of this critical corridor.

“The rightsized E2 will enable Hunnu Air to profitably grow, unlocking the huge potential of Mongolia and strengthening a growing Asia network.”

Since its establishment in 2011, Hunnu Air has emerged as a significant player in the northeast Asian nation. From its hub at Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar, the airline operates more than 15 international routes.

Hunnu Air has an extensive network of cross-border routes into China, including Beijing Daxing, Haikou and Sanya, as well as various regional destinations in northeastern China.
