Near Twofold Increase in Traffic at the Dogharoun–Islam Qala Border
The Director General of Road Maintenance and Transportation of Razavi (Central) Khorasan Province stated during a meeting between the province’s governor and the Governor of Herat that average daily crossings at the Dogharoun border reached 1,080 vehicles in November, marking a 40 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Jafar Shahamat noted that, following efforts to provide long delayed welfare facilities at the Islam Qala border after a decade, it is hoped that Iranian drivers will soon gain access to adequate service and sanitary amenities.
He added that three outbound gates toward Afghanistan and three inbound gates have been installed at this crossing, stressing that their effective activation is essential to reducing truck clearance times.
The meeting was held as part of broader initiatives to develop economic cooperation between Razavi (Central) Khorasan and the Province of Herat, with the participation of governmental and private sector representatives from both countries.
