Increase in Exports and Growth in Truck Traffic at Astara Border in Gilan Province
Significant growth has been reported in exports and truck traffic at the Astara border in Guilan Province. According to Director General of Roads Maintenance and Transportation Organization of Guilan Province, 727,930 tons of cargo were exported through the Astara border during the first seven months of this year, reflecting a 4% increase compared to the same period last year.
Fariborz Moradi further highlighted the remarkable improvement in the province's international transport indicators during this period, stating that 73,166 tons of cargo were imported into Iran via the Astara border by road transport fleets. Furthermore, 688,205 tons of cargo were crossed through the province, of which 594,839 tons passed through the Astara border and 93,366 tons through the Anzali border.
The Director General reported that the province's transit input during this time totaled 494,426 tons, while the transit output reached 193,779 tons. The primary items of outgoing transit included potatoes and tea, highlighting the region's role in agricultural trade.
Additionally, Mr. Moradi revealed that 291,097 trucks entered the country through the Astara border, while 49,286 trucks departed during the same period, stressing the strategic significance of the Astara border and Anzali port in facilitating international transport and trade. According to Moradi, these two critical hubs play a vital role in boosting Iran's commercial exchanges with the Caucasus region and the Eurasian Economic Union, serving as key corridors for regional economic integration.
