Siemens to Build New Rail Service Centre in Poland

Siemens Mobility has announced an expansion of its European rail service network with the construction of a brand-new Rail Service Centre in Gądki near Poznań, Poland.

The new, 4,300-square-metre depot, which is scheduled to open in 2027, will aim to provide comprehensive maintenance services for locomotives operating in Poland, as well as across Central and Eastern Europe.

Once operational, the site will be capable of accommodating up to seven locomotives at any one time, and will include roughly five kilometres of electrified tracks, maintenance equipment, including an underfloor wheel lathe and a dropping table, and a dedicated testing area.

All service operations will be based on Railigent X, and the depot is set to become an key asset in Siemens Mobility’s European service network for locomotives whilst strengthening its global service footprint.

Development of the new Rail Service Centre is supported by local and regional partners, including Marshal’s Office of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship, together with the Municipality of Kórnik and the Zakłady Kórnickie Foundation. The overall aim of the new depot will be to expand maintenance capabilities across Central and Eastern Europe whilst providing customers with faster and more flexible access to service capacities.

The facility will offer both light and heavy maintenance and cover a broad range of activities, from scheduled inspections and maintenance of safety systems to major overhauls, modifications, accident repairs and mobile service. The depot will also feature key sustainability aspects, and will operate entirely carbon neutrally.

Siemens Mobility currently employs a team of over 60 specialists within Poland, all of which support several hundred locomotives annually, including Vectron, Taurus and BR189-F4 vehicles. These maintenance activities are supported by digital solutions including Railigent X, Siemens Mobility’s digital platform for rail asset management, as well as digital tools for fleet and spare-parts management.

The realisation of the company’s Rail Service Centre will aim to consolidate and expand these existing capabilities, while increasing the range and capacity of services that can be performed locally.
