Alstom Begins Testing of First Driverless Train for Santiago’s Line 7

Alstom and Metro de Santiago have announced the start of dynamic testing for the first Metropolis AS-22-UTO driverless train on Santiago’s future Line 7.
The tests, which are being carried out at Alstom’s Taubaté site in Brazil, mark a key development in the new line’s introduction into passenger service, which aims to improve mobility for roughly 1.6 million people whilst strengthening sustainable public transport options across the Chilean capital.
Designed to ensure the train complies with all design specifications and performance requirements before commencing service, the testing first begins with static testing, which aims to verify the train’s mechanical and electrical systems whilst stationary, including their dimensions, weight, air conditioning, motors, doors, lighting and passenger information systems. This is then followed by a dynamic testing phase, which assesses the train’s performance in motion, including traction, braking and signalling functions, as well as operation of the Unattended Train Operation (UTO) system that will enable fully automated service on Line 7.
All tests are being conducted on Alstom’s own, dedicated test track at its Taubaté facility, and, to date, seven of the 37 units ordered for Line 7 have been assembled, and are currently in various stages of either manufacturing or testing.
