Siemens Mobility has received type authorisation for the latest upgrade of its interoperable Eurosprinter locomotives, ES64F4, to the European Train Control System (ETCS) Baseline 3.4.

Authorisation has been given by the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), with the locomotives now fully equipped with Atlas ETCS.

Steffen Bobsien, Vice President Locomotives and Passenger Coaches at Siemens Mobility, said:

This milestone demonstrates how trust and continuity are essential in our partnership with customers.

At Siemens Mobility, we stand by our products throughout their entire lifecycle – we support our locomotives and customers for decades, ensuring long-term reliability and smooth cross-border operation.

Having been awarded the project in December 2020; prototype conversions were completed at Siemens Mobility’s Allach plant after 16 months. The full application for type authorisation was subsequently submitted, as planned, to the ERA in December 2024.
