ScotRail Launches Procurement for New Suburban Fleet

ScotRail has issued a major contract notice for the launch of a new suburban train fleet via the Procurement Contracts Scotland (PCS) website.

Interested parties are being invited to tender for the opportunity which aims to put trains into operation in the early 2030s

The acquired trains will replace approximately two thirds of ScotRail’s current fleet during the course of the next 15 years, serving routes such as East Kilbride, Fife, Borders, and the Glasgow inner suburban routes, including the Argyle Line (which includes services between Glasgow and Motherwell, Larkhall and Lanark) and South Electrics (including the Shotts line) routes.

ScotRail has stated that the new trains will form a key part of its plan to encourage more people to opt for public transport over personal vehicles.

Enhancements are set to include on-board facilities such as modern air-conditioning, more robust reliability, reduced emissions, increased accessibility and active travel provision.

The Scottish Government has given its official approval for the full procurement to proceed.
