Stadler has been commissioned to build an additional 13 KISS double-decker multiple-unit trains for AB Transitio, with the latter choosing to secure an option from an initial contract between the two companies dating back to 2016.
The new vehicles will be utilised by Mälardalstrafik AB for regional transport in the Stockholm Mälaren region, supplementing its existing fleet of 53 Stadler trains once they are delivered from spring 2028.
The new four-car trains, which have been specifically manufactured to withstand Nordic weather conditions, feature closed engine rooms, double-walled carriage gangways, snow-clearing equipment and underfloor heating, enabling full service during extreme temperatures and heavy snowfall. The trains are capable of reaching maximum speeds of up 200 km/h.
Each new vehicle will feature a Nordic design with an open passenger layout, with the trains built higher and wider with 357 seats, some of which are adjustable. Each seat will be fitted with an individual reading light, power socket and work table, with Wi-Fi and mobile phone boosters fitted throughout each vehicle.
Ansgar Brockmeyer, Head of Marketing & Sales and Deputy Group CEO of Stadler, said:
The KISS double-decker train combines Nordic robustness with state-of-the-art comfort. This is ideal for reliable, efficient and comfortable regional transport in the Stockholm Mälaren region.
We have a proven track record of effective collaboration with AB Transitio, and I am delighted that we can continue this partnership.
