Metrolinx is expanding its GO Transit train service through Hamilton later this month, with all existing Niagara-bound trains on the Lakeshore West line scheduled to stop at West Harbour GO Station from 17 May.

This change will provide additional weekday and weekend train options for passengers travelling through the area. Weekday travellers using West Harbour GO Station will have four more trains to choose from, while weekend service will include six new trips.

This change is possible due to the completion of a new connecting track through West Harbour. This infrastructure allows trains to pass directly through the station without requiring operational adjustments due to reversing manoeuvres. The upgrade therefore improves the overall efficiency of the journey.

The project was originally scheduled for completion in the autumn, but has been finished ahead of time. The early completion allows GO Transit to bring enhanced service to the Hamilton–Niagara corridor sooner than planned.

For customers in Hamilton, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls, the update introduces direct weekend train service between these locations. Trains that had already been stopping at West Harbour are also expected to see a reduction in travel time, with estimated savings of up to eight minutes in each direction.
