Earlier this week, Siemens Mobility presented the Velaro high-speed train for Egypt. We took a look onboard to check out its interior.
The Velaro Egypt is an eight-car train spanning 200 meters in length. It can carry 481 passengers and offers both Business and Standard class compartments, as well as a restaurant carriage.
Business Class seats are available in pairs, singles or with four seats around a table.
In total, 41 Velaro high-speed trains will be produced for Egypt’s new railway system to travel at speeds of up to 250 km/h.
The train is equipped with on-board internet, power sockets, and real-time information displays. It also includes accessibility features and luggage storage.
This train is part of a significant project to modernise Egypt’s rail system through a collaboration between Siemens Mobility, Orascom Construction, and The Arab Contractors.
Siemens has already produced and tested five of the ordered Velaro trains.
The have been designed for the country’s extreme environmental conditions and include features to combat high temperatures, sand, and dust.
